I know that Soquel Camp Meeting is fading into distant memory, but for the next 10 days, I'm going to bring you a day by day commentary as it unfolded.
I had originally planned to do this as the week went on. But my responsibilities at this event wore me out! In the best possible way of course. So I'm still going to do it, just a week after the event finished!
This picture was taken as the light holding structure was down at a workable level - just one day before it all started. I cannot describe the technical details involved in putting this all together. But there are some incredibly talented people who come together for camp meeting - some paid a fraction of their worth, some completely voluntary.
But why go to all this effort? For an obvious answer to this oft asked question, I will try and quote - as best I can after the fact - Costin Jordache, my ultimate supervisor here, and Vice President of Communication at our Conference:
"There are going to be many preachers and speakers coming here this week. And together they are going to share God to us, and build us up as Gods people over the next 10 days. It is our job to make sure that this message gets heard with as few distractions as possible."
The message was to be clear. It was to be heard well without anyone noticing the PA. It was to be seen well, no matter where people were sitting in the 5,000 seat hanger. It was to be broadcast well - over Hope Church Channel, and or the livestream.
For 10 days a group of pastors, AV professionals, and dedicated volunteers became a juggernaut of a production team!
As a Pastor, I work alone a lot. And it was a real privilege to be part of such a high functioning team. I'll share more from back stage and around the camp site for the next 10 days.
