One year I am going to turn up for Camp Meeting, and these guys won't be there. And that will be such a huge shame. They sound amazing, lean on God to make it all happen, are a pleasure to work with back stage, can switch on a dime if the meeting calls for a particular song, cross the traditional to upbeat church music with incredible skill, and do it all with joy.
On the first night we'd allocated 50 mins for the preacher, who was Carlton Byrd, and was used to delivering 28 minute messages. I was producing this meeting, and I honestly thought he was joking along the lines of "you white people can't handle 50 minutes of preaching in one sitting!"
However, after about 44 minutes he came off, and the Praise Team hopped right up and "filled" while I looked at Doctor Byrd and with all the humility and pleading I could muster said "you gotta go back out there!"
You see, these programs are all broadcast on the Hope Church Channel, and they have a strict schedule just like any other television station.
Revelation of Hope did amazing, just as they would for the next 10 days. And Carlton Byrd went back out and took us right up to the second to round off the program. And I went phew.
