Ministry of Healing by Ellen White - An old book now, about putting true balance in your life, focusing on what is important and helping you see how those innocent looking thoughts can take you far from where you want to go. I highly recommend this book.
It's Friday But Sunday's Comin' by Tony Campolo - I loved his sermon with this title. But when you watch it on youtube, it appears a bit out of date now. However, the words on the book live as vibrant and relevant as ever. If you want to be inspired as a Christian on how your faith intersects with the world - this is a good start.
The Incomparable Christ by John Stott - if you're looking for something a bit more meaty in the theological sense (but still very readable) then you'll enjoy this. A wonderful author, pastor, student, man. Here he discusses the Biblical Jesus.
Fresh Power by Jim Cymbala - I was changed when I sat at the (digital) feet of this man. I believe he is the real thing, and his writing calls you to that same following of Jesus.
Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas - This book helps you understand the unique way in which you relate to God - yes we do not all relate best in pews. And tells how you can make the most of your spiritual journey based on who are (and who God has created you as). There will be some of you who really need to read this book.
Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster - if your spiritual life is feeling stale, but you also feel ready to really do this Christ following, then this will be so very good for you. Not a quick read. In fact I got the most out of this when reading - and applying - one chapter at a time. Do know that there are some in our denomination that really do not like some of the things this man has written - he's on a list! But it is hard to argue the content of this book.
If I were the Devil by George Knight - There are many books I could recommend by this man, but if I limit myself to one, I'll choose this one today. Here he looks at things we do to bring ourselves down and away from Christ - which, as it turns out, is what Knight thinks the devil would try and get us to do.
Sex God by Rob Bell - as he starts out in the first line of the book - this book is not about that. It's actually one of the best summaries I have found for me about the gospel in today's experience. Again, not everyone's favorite author, but he brings it in this book.
Exclusion & Embrace by Miroslave Volf - If you have noticed increasing division in our communities, nation and world, and would like a Biblical look at this topic, then you will not be disappointed with this book. Written long before the headlines of today, it speaks powerfully to what we now know and see. Not an easy read - this is how the book describes itself "A Theological Exploration of Identity, Otherness, and Reconciliation." If that line gets your attention, then the book will blow your socks off.
Victory In Jesus by Bill Liversidge - Just a wonderful Biblical look at the topic of Salvation, written for Seventh-day Adventists. Overcoming Through Jesus, is a more general Christian version of the same book. If you feel stuck, this could be a great read to help you get back into the Bible.
