So much of Christianity's teaching is about waiting for the future. The not so subtle message is: If you're good enough now, and you go without enough now... then you'll reap your reward later.
But... Jesus said "come follow me".
Nothing about packing your bags or trying to earn enough to keep you going while following. Jesus is not the one who says that we have to get good enough to follow.
Jesus is now. His grace is now.
