You know it's true... people have heard how much these Christians love their Savior. They acknowledge him not only as their ruler, and creator of all things, but also as the one who fixes all our wrongs, turning our shame into glory.
Knowing this, a would be seeker enters one of these Christian churches - a house of worship some call it. And right there, before their eyes are the most apathetic looking, down faced, going through the motions group of people they have ever seen. Up front are worship leaders, hands on hips, staring out to nowhere, trying to make this something more important and significant to their weekly routine.
Surely, our worship can be better than this. So, why do we sing?
1. Because music can express emotions much deeper than our words can. Words are good, but music comes much closer to how we truly feel when faced with the glory of God.
2. It helps us memorize Godly things. Chances are, any Christian these days know more songs than they do scriptures.
3. It lends itself to group activity. Whether it's a choir or a congregation, small group or band, it's just simply beautiful group expression
4. It can change our own emotions. We can come to church sour, depressed, and even questioning our faith - but music can change all that in one sitting.
So... sing my Christian friends. Fear not that you are singing the wrong songs, with the wrong instruments at the wrong time. Focus instead on what you are intending to do, give it your best, and let the Holy Spirit present your melodies of praise before a very loving, and I trust an appreciative, God.
