The Bible isn't a set of stories of the same thing happening over and over again - with God sometimes winning and sometimes losing. The Bible isn't a set of stories where God sometimes is love, and sometimes is just.
We don't get to pick a loving God or a just God. We don't even get to identify God by any one story. In fact we mustn't do that. It's not very helpful in our understanding of God.
Instead, human history is all one story. Where the will and character of God is unfolding. In pieces, for we do not have the words to do it in one paragraph. The only way you can even begin to understand this God is to try and put all the pieces together. The love, the justice. And the winning and losing along the way ... well, it isn't winning and losing. It's all part of the same battle.
There is no Old Testament God, and New Testament God. This life isn't a test, where the good, strong and lucky go up, while the bad, weak and unlucky go down.
It's all part of a plan. A plan of salvation and reconciliation. A humble answer to the Devils accusations. A display of right and truth, justice and love.
So play your part today with jubilant worship - knowing the victory is won.
