People are crazy.
For many years my church at large has been guilty of emphasizing Adventism at the expense of a grace orientation and a love for Christ. My experience tells me this is as sad as it sounds.
And we know this is not the way it should be. But guilt and regret and a sense of being wrong can lead people to very strange responses. You see, just because something is wrong, does not mean the opposite is right.
So many appear ready and prepared to ditch their beliefs in order to make sure we don't repeat the same tragic mistakes. It's like it has to be left or right... with no space in the middle to follow the narrow way.
Just because one human invention is wrong, does not mean another human invention will save the day. In the middle of theology, life, church, belief - it is vital that God be put in the center. If we are following God, then let it be His message that drives us.
Matthew 7.13, 14 Go in through the narrow gate. The gate to destruction is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate. 14 But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it.
When you are aiming for something narrow - left or right is not going to work. And responding to one error with the other is not going to help. Focus on Jesus, and may His church be identified as people that live for Him.
