We are faced with certain things in ministry - times where we have choices to make. People to support, admire or chastise. Power to be bowed to or stood up to. To protect flocks, or use them for our own gain.
The trouble is - right or wrong is not always clear in the middle of a tough day, a church or school conflict, or in a conference memo.
But there is one way to know if you are veering on the right side. You can measure how you are doing by looking at the company your decisions will keep you in. Will you be respected by the corporate, or the rich and famous? Or do you suddenly feel at one with the radical? Are you hanging with the “least of these”.
It’s worth taking a moment in the heat of the battle to see what company your decisions and actions have you keep.
