It is hard to root for someone, or something, that you don't know. And it is easy to root for someone, or something, you do know.
Some of us have just enough information about someone to hate them. They are from "there", or do "that". But continue to get to know someone, or something, and you begin to understand them. When you hate someone because they are drunk, or an abuser, your heart begins to melt a little when you learn that they were abused, or their parents were drunks too.
Jesus says love your enemies. Which is a tough thing to do. Perhaps if there is someone we know just enough about to hate, we ought to get to know them more, and then we realize we don't have to love our enemies because all of a sudden we don't have any.
I've heard it said that travel is fatal to bigotry and narrow-mindedness. Do some traveling out of your comfort zone today.
