First of all, as a Jesus follower, and student of the Scriptures, I am convinced that this earth in its current state will not last forever. So I'm not worried about about global warming (though know it is real) or the ability we continue to have to blow the whole thing up whenever certain people want to.
But Genesis, right in there with creation, says we are to look after this world. Even once sin had entered the picture, Adam's curse was that it would be harder to look after - with the implication his responsibly just got bigger... not smaller.
So I am bothered by the amount of pollution we put into the atmosphere. Not to save the planet nessearily, but to make breathing easier for people who find breathing hard. I continue to be fascinated by the up to 4 million species we've yet to discover (ref. Vox.com) along with the ones we know are becoming extinct.
I know I will likely not live in my current house forever, but I still want to make it look beautiful and keep it working at its best as it serves as my home for a least the next year.
So fellow Jesus followers: Happy Earth Day! Celebrate its beauty and learn of it's fragility. But fear not... a New Earth is promised. :-)
