Tonight, at church, we had communion. Yes, on Friday, as we remembered to remember.
Usually at communion I stand in the middle of two Elders, who wait for me to "pass them" the cup and bread that is right in front of them. They then take these items to the Deacons who then distribute them around the congregation. For all intents and purposes, what I do is minimal, and symbolic at best.
Tonight was different.
I had the skit guys on video telling the Crucifixion story from the perspective of some of the main characters, and as usual, they do a great job of communicating Bible truths. While this was going on, I took the tray of little cups, and the little squares of bread, and served the whole church. And it was the best communion I remember in a long time.
The joy comes from serving, not being a symbolic overlord. I simply must remember this in all other aspects of my life and job too.
