I've been doing these for a while now. And I share things Jesus DIDN'T say in order to over emphasize the things he DID say.
But we don't have change the words to put things into Jesus mouth! Sometimes our interpretation of the words alone will do the trick!
What Jesus did in fact say in Matthew 5:48 was: Be therefore - perfect, just as your Father in perfect. Ken Davis once told me - when the word 'therefore' is in the Bible, be sure and work out what it is 'there for'.
Jesus was talking about how we treat each other. . . both fellow followers, and even our enemies. Jesus was calling us to a life of love, and not judgement. And as the words in the graphic above suggest, we are quite comfortable judging our fellow earthlings. So stop trying to be perfect, as your neighbor is perfect, but love as your father loves.
Jesus is calling you to think, to serve and to love your neighbor. Just as your Father loves your neighbor.
